Trick or Treat
By Shelly
“Hey Layla, could you help me with my wings,” Ashley asked. The 2005 Diva Search
winner was sporting a leather halter top with a matching mini skirt, black
fishnets and leather stiletto heeled knee boots. Her blonde hair was curled and
streaked with purple and blue to match the fairy butterfly wings she was now
putting on. Her make up was light shimmery, especially around the eyes.
“You look adorable,” Layla said. “I love how your hair came out.”
“You’re not looking too bad yourself,” Ashley said smiling. “Hang on though,
your tail is crooked.” Layla sported a black lace corseted top, with matching
short shorts, fishnets and boots that came to mid-calf. On the shorts she
sported a white cotton tail and she was just slipping on the headband with her
bunny ears and he nose with buck teeth and whiskers.
“Do you think Paul will like my costume,” Layla asked, posing provocatively.
“Girl, he would have to be a blind man not to,” Ashley chuckled. “Did he say who
he’s bringing along for me?”
“No,” Layla replied, with a sigh. “You ready?”
“As I’ll ever be,” Ashley replied. The girls grabbed their jackets and headed
off to meet Paul at his hotel room.
Layla knocked and Brian Kendrick answered clad in green tights and a matching
green tunic. He had pointed ears on, a quiver of arrows and a bow slung across
his back. “Nice costume,” Ashley said smiling. “Guess you’re my mystery date,
huh elf boy?”
“Uh…yeah,” Kendrick replied, smiling uncomfortably. He turned his attention to
Layla. “Paul’s pretty pissed about the costume you picked for him. He’s refusing
to come out of the bathroom.”
Layla sighed. “Paul,” she called entering the room. “Baby, come on out and let
me see how you look.”
“No,” London replied. “I look ridiculous!”
Ashley couldn’t help laughing at the couple arguing. “What did she pick out for
him,” she asked Kendrick.
“A bunny,” Kendrick replied chuckling.
“Are you kidding me,” Ashley laughed. “No wonder he’s pitching a fit.”
“Baby, please come out,” Layla begged, banging on the bathroom door.
“Fine,” London replied. “But if anyone laughs I’m changing!” The bathroom door
opened and London exited. His costume was a one piece black with white tummy
bunny suit. His bunny ears were a skull cap and his had a nose with buck teeth
and whiskers.
“Paul…you look….awesome,” Ashley said, trying her best not to laugh. She held
onto Kendrick, burying her face in his shoulder to keep from laughing.
“Yeah,” Kendrick said. “You look great!” He had to look away to keep from
bursting out right in his face.
“That’s it,” London said glaring at Layla. “I’m changing.”
“But then you’ll be the only one in the club without a costume,” Layla pouted.
“Besides you said you wanted us to match.”
“I didn’t think you’d pick matching bunny costumes, Lay,” London said with a
sigh. Layla pouted more. “You’re lucky I love you,” he grumbled, resigned to
wearing the costume. “Are we ready to go?”
“Yeah,” Kendrick said. “Why don’t you ladies go on ahead and open up the car. I
need to talk to Paul a moment.” He tossed his keys to Ashley.
“What’s going on,” London asked.
“You didn’t tell me that you invited Ashley,” Kendrick said.
“Would you have agreed to come if I did,” London replied. Kendrick didn’t
answer. “Dude, what is your deal with her?”
“She’s really hot,” Kendrick replied. “I love hanging out with her.”
“Then why don’t you ask her out,” London asked. “She’s single now. Her and Matt
broke up months ago.”
“I know,” Kendrick replied frowning. “I just…I don’t know.”
“What,” London asked as they waited for the elevator.
“I get all tongue tied and nervous around her,” Kendrick replied.
London chuckled. “You’re hopeless,” he said shaking his head. The elevator
finally dinged to a stop on their floor and the got on.
“Shut up,” Kendrick said shoving him lightly. “You’re only mocking me because
you have Layla.”
“Seriously, man, you really need to suck it up and ask her out before someone
else does,” London said. “She’s a beautiful woman with a great personality and
someone is going to scoop her up if you wait too long.”
“I know,” Kendrick replied with a sad sigh.
“Look, why don’t you spend some time with her at the club,” London suggested.
“Buy her a couple of drinks, dance a little and then ask her out at the end of
the night. The worst she could say is no.”
“I suppose you’re right,” Kendrick said.
“All set,” Layla called as the guys approached the car.
“Yeah, babe,” London called slipping into the back seat with her.
Kendrick slid behind the wheel and gave Ashley a nervous smile. The ride to club
was filled with idle chit chat about storylines and weather. When they finally
pulled into the parking lot for the club everyone was ready to have a good time.
The pulsating beat from inside the club fueled their desire to cut loose for the
night.
“Order us some drinks,” Ashley said to London and Kendrick. “Layla and I need to
touch up our make up.” She grabbed Layla and dragged her off to the ladies room.
“What’s going on,” Layla asked once they were by the sinks.
“Is it just me or does Brian get really quiet around me lately,” Ashley asked.
“He does,” Layla said with a smile. “I think it’s so cute. He’s got it bad for
you, girl.”
“I suspected as much,” Ashley replied thoughtfully. “What should I do?”
“That depends on how you feel about him,” Layla replied.
“He’s a really sweet guy,” Ashley said smiling. “I always have fun with him.
He’s definitely easy on the eyes.”
Layla chuckled, knowing her friend liked him. “Then go with it,” she said.
“Dance with him and have a good time and see where it goes.”
“All right,” Ashley said nodding. “Let’s go. I’m itching to get that man on the
dance floor.” Layla giggled following Ashley out of the ladies room and back to
the bar where London and Kendrick were waiting for the girls with their drinks.
“Care to dance,” Kendrick asked Ashley as she took a sip of her drink.
“I thought you’d never ask,” Ashley said smiling.
Kendrick offered her his hand and she accepted it, allowing him to lead her out
onto the dance floor. She placed his hands on her hips as they began to sway to
pulsating beats of the music. Kendrick smiled, loving the closeness of her body.
He inhaled her sweet, intoxicating scent as she leaned into him.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you something for a while now,” he said, his lips
inches from her ear so that she could hear him over the music.
“What’s that,” she replied, turning around to face him.
“I was wondering if you’d like to go out with me sometime,” he replied. “To a
movie or dinner?”
“Brian Kendrick, are you asking me a on a date,” she asked, a smile spreading
across her lips.
“Yeah,” he replied, feeling much bolder now that they were dancing so close.
“Well, then I accept,” she replied. “Happy Halloween, elf boy.”
“Hey, Ashley,” Kendrick said. “Trick or treat?”
She pulled his face down to hers and smiled. “Definitely treat,” she replied and
brought her lips to his in a fiery kiss.
“It’s about time those two got together,” Layla said smiling as she watched
Ashley and Kendrick on the dance floor. London nodded, taking her hand and
leading her onto the dance floor as well.
