Matt looked up as the door to his and his father’s house opened. Matt looked into the eyes of his younger brother, Jeff. Jeff was dressed in rags and that’s it, his hair grown to unknown lengths and his face hair was longer then anyone’s Matt had ever seen.

Three months before Jeff was flying over mountain and his plane crashed. No one found Jeff around, not even a sign that he was still alive. Matt and his father paid all expenses for the funeral and move on with their lives, but always kept him in their hearts.

"Jeff? Is that really you?" Matt asked rubbing his eyes. Jeff looked at his brother and nodded.

"Where’s Dad?" he asked. Matt looked at him and pointed to the room that was once both his parents. Jeff started for the door.

“He isn’t doing to well Jeff. After everyone thought you were dead he came down very sick. And hasn’t been able to get his life back. Matt informed him. Jeff nodded and went into the room. Their father looked up at him.

“Am I dreaming? Is that really you Jeff?” His father asked. Jeff looked at his dad and shook his head.

“No, Dad!” he told him in a soft voice. Jeff came over and got on his knees next to the bed.

“You should have called.” His Dad scolded. Jeff looked at his Dad and shook his head.

“I couldn’t. I didn’t have any money.” He told his father.

“I’m just so glad that you are alive.” He told him wrapping Jeff into a hug. In the door-way Matt stood with his arms crossed over his chest. He watched his younger brother and Dad. Like the other two he also had tears on his cheeks.

Matt turned to the door when it opened. Matt’s now fiancée walked into the house. He put his fingers to his lips to hush her from talking. She came over and stood next to him. She looked into the room.

“Who is that?” she questioned. She and Matt had met a long time before, and she was around when Jeff died.

Matt looked at her and smiled. “Jeff.” Was all he said. She looked at him wide eyed.

“You mean he isn’t…”

“Nope.”

Matt wrapped his arms around her and smiled. He gently touched the tip of her head with his lips.

Jeff stood up and looked at the door. He smiled at his old friend.

“Amy?” he asked. She looked at him and smiled. She ran and jumped into his arms.

“Oh. Jeff!”

Jeff smiled and hugged her. He looked up at his brother. He set Amy down and went over to his elder brother. “I’ve missed you.”

Matt smiled at him and wrapped a hug around his brother. “We’ve all missed you.” Matt replied.

I wanna see the planes.” Jeff whispered into his brothers ear. Matt pulled away and shook his head.

“We aren’t going to lose you again.” He told him. Jeff smiled.

“I have no intention in flying the planes. I just wanna see them.”

Amy stepped in and looked at Jeff. She pulled on some of his locks. “Why don’t we all get something to eat? And I will cut you hair for you.” She put in with a smile. Jeff smiled back.

“Okay.” He agreed.

Matt went over and helped his father up, as Jeff went to the room that he once lived in. He knew that they had done nothing to it, but maybe add some stuff from fans: he had once worked under contract with the World Wrestling Federation. He was really hoping that he could get back his job.

Jeff pushed open the door. Sure enough there were bears and letters on his bed all laid out in an orderly fashion. He knew that Matt had done it. Pushing open the door to the closet he saw all the clothes that he once would fit into.

Now he was so small he knew he would fit into them. But still he put on a pair of new pants on along with a tank top. Turning around he saw a letter. Next to it was a dead rose and a teddy bear.

Jeff approached the bed, and right away he noticed the hand writing. It was Beth’s. He picked the letter up and read it.

Jeff,
You’ve given me the best years of my life. Just wish we would have spent more time together before I once again lost you. Hope I will see you in heaven. Where I know the Lord had taken you. I will always remember you, and always have a place for you in my heart.

Love You Always And Forever
Beth

When Jeff looked up he was crying. How could he have forgot about her? But why look back? Beth was so beautiful, that she probably had a new man in life. He just wished that he knew where she was. There was a loud knock on the door. Jeff looked up and smiled at Matt.

“She’s still around.” He told him. Jeff looked at him and smiled.

“Who is she dating?” he asked. Matt smiled and shook his head.

“She isn’t. She is still waiting for you to come take her with you.” Matt told him. Jeff looked at the note then back up at his brother.

“I wanna see her.”

“Lets go eat then I will take you to her house.”

“You still got my car?”

“Yes. Dad wouldn’t get rid of anything. He was doing like he did with Mom.”

“I will go by myself. That is if she still lives in the cabin.” Jeff stated.

“She does.”

Jeff nodded and smiled. He got up and went to the bathroom. He found his old razor and the blades he had bought just before the crash. He took his time and shaved his face. He took all the hair off. Next was his hair. Quietly he made his way back to the kitchen. Amy already had the stuff to cut his hair with out.

Sit she gestured for the chair. Jeff sat down and let her get to work. “Same way? “

“Yes please.” His father looked at his son and shook his head.

“How did you ever make it back? Why didn’t you just start new?” Gilbert asked. Jeff shrugged his shoulders.

“I knew I had family here. And wanted to come home to them.”

“Whatever took you so long?” Amy asked chopping away at his mangled hair. Jeff shrugged.

“Don’t know. I was lonely, didn’t think there was a chance. So I stayed up there for about three week, not eating anything but leaves and things I could kill. Then I got tired of it and started down the mountain. By the time I found civilization I was tired, so I stayed an alley for a few weeks. And then I found my way home, after getting some people to help.” He explained.

After a few more minutes Amy gave Jeff’s hair a little push and then nodded. Jeff stood up and looked in the mirror. Amy looked at him and he checked out his hair.

“Is it okay?” she questioned.

“Yeah. Its great. Thanks Amy.” He turned to face them. “I’m going to see Beth. Be back in a bit. “

Jeff left the house and went to the garage. He jumped in his Black Corvette he had once always drove, and was on his way to the cabin he once shared with the love of his life, Beth!

As he drove he thought about what he was going to tell her when she asked why he hadn’t called. What was he going to tell her when she asked all these odd questions. He was hoping that she would still love him, as she did before the crash.

He pulled into the long gravel drive up to the cabin. The pond in the yard was still the prettiest blue, and the frogs that he had bought were still there. Everything was the same as when they build the cabin. As he pulled up to the cabin the door opened and Beth stepped out. The same beautiful woman that he knew from childhood.

“Matthew, why are you driving…” she stopped when Jeff stepped out of the car. Beth took a step back and looked Jeff over. Tears formed in her eye, and then fell to her cheeks. She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.

“I am so sorry.” Jeff whispered, now crying himself. Beth kissed his cheek and looked at him.

“Jeff, I’ve missed you so much.” She told him. Jeff smiled and nodded in agreement.

“I’ve missed you also.”

Jeff took her hand and the two went into the cabin. When he was inside he looked around. Nothing had changed. But he noticed something different on Beth. She was starting to grow a little stomach. But Jeff really didn’t take it into thought. He stood in the door way as if he was a stranger in his own home. When Beth came back from the kitchen, she held two glasses of water. She handed one to Jeff. They both sat down on the couch. Jeff and Beth sat there in silence for a few moments.

“Jeff…” Beth let her voice trail. He looked at her and smiled.

“Yeah?”

“Why didn’t you call or write to let us know that you were okay?”

Jeff sat there and looked at the floor. He didn’t even know why he never done any of these things either. Finally after about five minutes Jeff looked back up at her.

“I don’t know Beth. And I don’t know why I didn’t come home sooner. Maybe it was the fact that I needed to be out, maybe it wasn’t. But most of the time it was you I thought about the first month or so, but then I thought about how I was gonna eat and live from day to day.” He explained. Beth took his hands and kissed them.

“I’m so glad you home.” She told him in a whisper. He smiled.

“So am I.”

12 Hours Later

Jeff and Beth had gone back to the house. Now everyone was sitting around in the living room talking. Amy looked over at Beth and smiled. She was the only one that knew she was pregnant. Everyone else just thought that she was gaining weight. Beth unwrapped herself from Jeff’s arms and stood up.

“Amy…” she sung out with a smile.

Amy looked at her.

“Come here.”

Amy got up and followed Beth to the kitchen. They got cups out and Beth poured cups of 7-Up. She then turned to Amy.

“When should I tell him?” she questioned.

“Why not tonight? Are you going to stay here with him tonight?”

“I don’t know. Jeff might want to stay the night with your family tonight.” Beth told her. Amy looked at her and rolled her eyes.

“You are our family. Anyhow Jeff would want you too stay with us.” Beth looked at her and smiled. “Maybe we should go to your house and get you some clothes.” Amy told her.

The two took the other cups into the living room and passed them out. Beth sat back down next to Jeff. Amy took her set next to Matt.

“Jeff.” Beth whispered. Jeff looked down at her.

“Yeah baby?”

“Can I use your car?” she asked him. Jeff looked at her and smiled.

“Sure. Where you going?”

“Oh, I want her to stay the night. So we’re gonna go get some clothes.” Amy broke in. Beth looked at her and chuckled.

“Yeah.” Beth chuckled.

“No, I want her to stay with me.” Jeff said wrapping his arms around her tight. Amy looked at her and smiled.

“She can sleep with you. But I get to hang with her all night.” Amy told him. Jeff nodded.

“I can live with that.” He told her. Beth and Amy both broke out and laughed at him.

“We’ll be back.” Beth told them grabbing Jeff’s keys. Amy looked at Matt and smiled.

“Be back soon.”

“You better.”

“We will“. Beth called back to the living room.

The two women left the house and jumped into the corvette. Beth drove to the cabin.

“I have a question for you two.” Jeff spoke for the first time since the women had left. Matt and Gilbert looked at him.

“What?” Gilbert asked. Jeff looked at his brother.

“Do either of you know if Beth is…”

“Yes?” Matt asked.

“Well is she pregnant?” Jeff asked.

“Why would she be pregnant?” Gilbert asked.

“Let me think Dad.” Jeff held the gun sign to is head.

“No I think she is putting on the weight.” Matt told him.

“Yeah, and if she was, why on earth would she tell me? More then anything she would tell Amy. And god knows Amy wont open her mouth.“ Matt told Jeff.

J Jeff nodded and took another drink of his 7-Up. He knew something was wrong. He didn’t think Beth was putting on the weight. Beth was too picky about her figure.

Beth and Amy got to the cabin and went inside. Beth sat back on the couch and held her hands over her stomach.

“God he has to be thinking I’m getting fat.” Beth told her with a small smile. Amy sat down next to her.

“Doll, don’t worry about it. You should be thinking about the much better life the baby is going to have now that Jeff is home.” Amy told her. Beth looked at her and smiled.

“Yeah I know. I’m just scared that Jeff is going to think its someone elses seeing as he’s gone for the last three months.”

“How far are you?”

“Six and a half months.”

“Well you know what. Jeff and you were always together. I don’t see how you could be six and a half months pregnant with someone else’s baby. Plus Jeff wouldn’t think that. He’s a real man. He’ll take his responsibility.” Amy told

her with a smile. Beth looked at Amy and smiled. She gave Amy a great big hug.

Thanks. You’re such a sweet heart.” Beth told her.

Beth got up and ran up the steps to her room. She quickly dug through the closet. Beth looked up as the phone rang.

“Amy can you get that please!” Beth called out.

“Yeah.”

Amy picked up the phone. “Hello?”

“Hi. Is Beth there?” came a male voice.

“May I ask who is calling?”

“Its Jason.”

“Oh, Jason. Hey Beth is upstairs getting clothes.”

“You having a sleep over or something?”

“No Jeff came home.” She told him. Amy heard the phone slam to the ground on the other end. She hung up Beth’s phone. “Oops..”

“Who was it?” Beth asked coming down the steps. Amy looked at her and frowned.

“Jason.” Beth looked at her and smiled.

“We are only friends. He wants to be more but I just keep telling him No.” Beth told her. Amy chuckled.

“Okay, are you ready to get out of this joint?” Amy asked looking around the house. Beth looked at her and smiled.

“Yeah. Can’t wait.” She told her.

Beth grabbed the car keys they left the cabin. She drove them back into town.

“Wanna stop at the store really quick. I wanna get some wine for tonight.” Amy told her. Beth looked at her.
“Yeah, but if you tease me I am going to kill you.” Beth told her pulling into the Amoco Gas Station. The two women got out of the car and went inside. Beth went to the pop area and got her two bottles of MT. Dew and a couple bottles for the others. Amy came over holding five bottles of Boons Farm.

Amy looked at her and laughed.

“Sorry Hon.”

“Yeah I bet.”

The two went to the cash register and paid for their drinks. Soon they were back on the road. Neither of them said a word on the way back to the house, on the outside of town.

10 Minutes Later

They pulled into the driveway and pulled the car up close to the house. Matt, Jeff and Gilbert were all sitting outside watching the stars. The two went over and joined them.

“Welcome back.” Gilbert greeted them. Beth and Amy smiled at him, and sat down next to Matt and Jeff.

“What ya guys doin?” Amy asked. Matt bent down and kissed her neck.

“Talking and watching the stars.” He replied. Amy had a shiver go up her back, and everyone broke out laughing at her.

Everyone sat around and talked for a few hours. Then when midnight rolled around they went inside and went to bed.

Beth and Jeff sat on Jeff’s bed with TV on. Beth had her head leaned back against Jeff’s chest. “Jeff?”

“Hmm?” he mumbled in her ear. Beth sat up and turned to face him. She took Jeff’s hands in hers.

“I don’t really know how to tell you this. But I’m pregnant. She whispered, hanging her head.

“How far along?”

“Six and a half months.”

“Is it mine or someone else’s?” he questioned, already knowing the answer .

“Yours.” She replied in a whisper. Jeff wrapped his arms around her and gave her a hug. He gently kissed her on the lips with a smile.

“Thats great baby.” Beth looked up at him and smiled.

“You really thinks so?” she questioned.

“Yeah, I’m glad I got back now. Instead of 10 months down the road.”

“Yeah so am I.” She laid her head against his chest again.

Jeff and Beth shut off TV and lights, and laid down in one another’s arms. Jeff watched Beth as she fell asleep. He was remembering the old days in High School, when they would go to the movies and she would fall asleep in his arms. He was recalling what it felt like to have a life and be happy. Yet there was still one thing missing, his job. He was bound and determined to get that back.

The next morning Jeff woke up. Beth still curled up to his side. He sat up, looking back at Beth before standing and stretching. He grabbed his robe and went to the kitchen. He wasn’t surprised to find his Dad sitting at the table with his morning paper.

“Morning son.” He greeted with a smile. Jeff looked at him

“Hi.”

Jeff poured himself a cup of coffee and sat down at the table.

“You’ve been home one day and you still know where everything is.” Jeff looked at his father and smiled.

“Yeah well you haven’t changed the place since mom died.”

Gilbert looked at him and nodded. “That’s right. And nothing will be left out of place and you will have to get use to that again.”

“Dad, don’t worry. I haven’t forgot everything.” Jeff told him. Gilbert nodded his head.

“Good. Then today before your brother leaves to go back on the road you can help him do the chores and take care of the tobacco fields.” Gilbert told him. Jeff looked at his Dad. Gilbert watched as his son walked out the door.

Shaking his head he drank his coffee.

Matt jumped when he heard a plane outside his window start up. He grabbed his jeans and pulled them on quickly. He ran down the hall and looked into Jeff’s room. The only one in the bed was Beth. “Fuck!” Matt yelled.

Matt ran outside quickly followed by Amy. She followed him out to the field. Matt panicked when he saw the plane Jeff was in. The place he was getting ready to take up was in the middle of getting the wing put back on.

“Jeff!” Matt ran after the plane. Gilbert had wakened Beth and they were now out there running after the plane.

Matt fell to the ground when he seen the plane lift off the ground.

“NOOO!” Beth screamed starting to cry. Matt watched as the plane started to pull to one side.

“What the fuck?” Jeff asked looking down at the ground. He noticed that the wing was about to come off. Just as he looked back up he came in contact with a tree. The plane went up in smoke.

Amy sat on the ground holding Beth as they watched the plane fall to the ground. Matt and Gilbert watched as they lost Jeff for the second time within a year. This time though they knew that there was no way for him to be alive.

1 Day Later

Amy, Beth, Matt and Gilbert all got into the car and drove up to the site of the accident the morning before. Everyone was still lost in there emotions. Especially Beth. She thought she had him back, only to lose him again.

As they pulled up next to where they had planted what they thought was Jeff, they found Jeffs half burnt body lying on top of the grave. The crash had happened only 10 feet from him. Beth looked at him and broke down.

Getting out of the car she sat down next to him.

“Jeff, you can’t leave so soon.” She cried. As they all sat there it started to rain. Matt looked up into the sky. There was a rainbow in the far right corner of the hill they lived on.

“Look. Jeff’s letting us know he’s sorry and loves us all.” Matt said pointing it out. This brought back memories for Beth. She and Jeff had spent many days and nights looking at the sky.

They all sat up there through the rain and the night. Just watching the rainbow and talking about the good times with Jeff and what they were going to miss most about Jeff.
