Chapter 1
Kendra walked down the shadowed hallway trying her best to remain unnoticed. She
had learned from her short time with Hunter that it was best not to draw
attention to herself, especially from him. The kind of attention she had been
receiving from him as of late was not the good kind. Over the past couple of
months his attitude had steadily deteriorated. Since he had gotten involved with
Ric Flair, Hunter had become a dangerous man, certainly not the gentle man she
had fallen for only months earlier. He had been so kind and generous when they
had first met and she fell for him quickly. But recently he had become cruel and
thoughtless. He didn’t hesitate to yell at her or slap her around if he became
upset, which seemed to be his constant state anymore. And Kendra knew why. It
could be summed up in two words. The Undertaker.
Chapter 2
Hunter was the champion and the Undertaker was determined to take his belt away
from him. Over the past few weeks he had pursued Hunter mercilessly but Hunter
had so far avoided giving the Undertaker a championship match. But Kendra felt
that Hunter knew his days were numbered. She shuddered at the thought of what
would happen to her when Hunter lost his belt. She knew she needed to get away
from him as soon as possible but she didn’t know where to turn. Hunter always
kept her to himself and she had not made friends with any of the other
wrestlers. Kendra thought back to a couple of weeks ago when she attempted to
leave after yet another one of Hunter’s attacks. She had told him she was
leaving but as she walked toward the door he had grabbed her by the throat and
slammed her against the wall. She winced as she remembered the look on his face
and the sound in his voice as he told her he would kill her if she ever left.
Kendra knew she was trapped and she didn’t know how she would ever make it out.
Kendra was so involved with her thoughts as she made her way through the hallway
that she didn’t notice the large man hiding in the shadows of a doorway ahead.
She continued to walk forward, staring down at the ground until she felt someone
grab her from behind.
A large gloved hand closed over her mouth to stifle her screams, while his other
arm wrapped around her, pinning her arms to her sides. He quickly pulled her
down the hall and into a room. Once they were inside the room, he closed the
door with his foot and then released her as he turned to lock the door. Kendra
spun around and came face to face with the Undertaker himself.
Chapter 3
Kendra stared at him wide-eyed before panic quickly began to set in. She
stumbled backwards trying to put as much distance between them as she possibly
could when she bumped into something. She turned to look and found herself
looking up at none other than the Undertaker’s brother, Kane. Kendra felt
herself growing sick as she realized the predicament she was in. “Oh God” she
thought. “What are they going to do to me?”
She turned around to once again face the Undertaker, who was glaring at her
coldly.
Kendra spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “What do you want with me?”
Taker stared at her for a few seconds before he finally spoke. “I want a title
shot at Hunter’s championship.”
“I don’t have anything to do with his matches” Kendra replied. “You need to talk
to Flair.”
“I don’t want to talk to anyone” Taker replied, irritated. “I want a title shot
and I want it now. Maybe when Hunter finds out that I’ve got his woman, he’ll be
willing to negotiate with me.” He slowly walked towards her until he was
standing right in front of her. “And if he doesn’t see things my way, you’ll be
the one who will pay.”
“He doesn’t care about…” Kendra tried to reply but she was cut short.
”Shut up!” yelled Taker before he grabbed her and shoved her down on a chair. He
leaned over and whispered in her ear “I’m going out to the ring to have a talk
with your boyfriend. I’m leaving Kane here to watch you. Don’t try anything cute
or I promise you will regret it!” He stood up and turned to Kane who had
remained silent the whole time. “Watch her closely. If she gets away, it’ll be
your ass!” Kane nodded his head and Taker turned and left the room.
Chapter 4
Kane walked over to the door and locked it after Taker left. He turned around
and looked at Kendra before taking a seat between her and the door. Despite the
fact that his mask covered the majority of his face, Kendra couldn’t help but
notice his eyes. She almost thought she detected a hint of compassion in them.
Kane quickly turned his attention to the monitor to avoid meeting her gaze. He
couldn’t help but feel sorry for her after the way his brother had just treated
her. But Kane and his brother had become close over the past few months. Taker
had helped him out on more than one occasion and he knew it was his turn to
return the favor. He would do whatever he could to help his older brother, even
if he didn’t agree with him. Kendra and Kane both focused their attention on the
monitor as the Undertaker made his way to the ring.
Kendra watched as Taker called out Hunter and challenged him to a championship
match. Taker informed Hunter that he had Kendra and that Hunter could have her
back as soon as he gave Taker a championship match.
Hunter simply smirked and replied “The bitch isn’t worth it.”
Kendra stared open mouthed at the monitor. She knew that her relationship with
Hunter had gone bad, but she had no idea he could be this uncaring. He had just
threatened to kill her if she ever left him and now he didn’t even care that she
was gone. Kane looked at Kendra and he saw the hurt expression on her face. His
heart went out to her. Despite the fact that others thought he was nothing but a
monster, he still had feelings. And he of all people knew what it felt like to
be rejected by others. He quickly turned off the monitor and turned to speak to
Kendra.
Despite being hurt, she knew deep down that Hunter didn’t care about her. “I
tried to tell Taker that Hunter doesn’t care about me” she said quietly.
Kane opened his mouth to answer her but he was cut short by an angry pounding on
the door. He jumped up and unlocked the door for his brother.
”What do we do now?” Kane asked.
“We’ll keep her with us for a few days.” Taker replied. “Maybe he’ll change his
mind before I’m done.”
Chapter 5
Kendra spent the next several days in the constant sight of the Undertaker and
Kane. She was never left alone, not even for a minute. Despite the fact that it
was the Undertaker who was using her in his plans, he was gone most of the time.
The majority of her time was spent alone with Kane. She had realized in the
short time that she had been with them that Kane was nothing like his older
brother. He was much quieter than Taker and he certainly didn’t have the self
confidence that his brother did. But he was also very kind hearted and he
constantly checked on her to see if she needed anything. Their conversations
were kept to a minimum however. Mostly just polite phrases spoken occasionally
out of necessity. Kendra always felt safer when she was alone with Kane. Somehow
she felt that he would never hurt her and she had to admit to herself that she
was definitely mesmerized by his mysterious personality. However, what she
didn’t know was that Kane felt the same way about her.
Kane had fallen for her the instant his brother had brought her into their room.
She was definitely a beautiful woman but she seemed so full of sadness he felt
as if he had to protect her. He hated that she was forced to suffer through his
brother’s plans but he at least tried to keep her as comfortable as possible
given the circumstances. But Kane tried not to become too friendly with her.
Despite his strong feelings for her, he knew that no woman would ever want to be
with him. He had learned his lesson years ago with Tori. He had believed that
Tori cared for him and he let himself care for her too. But she had only used
him like everyone else. He tried to keep his distance from Kendra, hoping it
would allow his feelings for her to fade away. He couldn’t allow himself to fall
like that again.
Chapter 6
Kendra spent a week traveling with the two men. Despite her predicament, it felt
good to be away from Hunter. While Taker had lightened up a little with her, she
could still feel his dislike for her. But neither Taker nor Kane had harmed her
in any way. The bruises on her body that she had received from Hunter were
starting to fade. She was well fed and she was finally able to rest at night.
Her only complaint was the monotony of her day. Every day was the same. They
went from their hotel to the arena and back to their hotel. She thought she
would insane from being cooped up inside for so long. She was dying to take a
walk outside and get some fresh air. She finally got her chance one afternoon
while the three of them were resting at the hotel.
They had gotten in late the night before and they had an early appointment that
morning so they had gotten little sleep. The three of them had returned to the
hotel later in the day to get some more rest. Kendra lay awake staring at the
ceiling as she listened to the two men snore. Kane had taken the second bed and
Taker was asleep on the couch. They were staying at a beautiful hotel right on
the beach and she was dying to go down to the pier and spend some time near the
ocean. She knew that Taker would be furious if she were to sneak out alone.
Finally, she couldn’t stand it any longer.
“I’ll only be gone a few minutes” she thought. “I’ll sneak back in before they
realize I’m gone.”
She quietly tiptoed to the dresser and swiped a room key. She quickly made her
way to the door and slowly opened it. She stepped outside and gently closed the
door behind her. Then she made her way outside to the pier.
Kendra walked out on the pier savoring the feel of the warm sun on her skin. She
walked over to the rail and leaned over, closing her eyes and breathing in the
scent of the ocean air. She watched the seagulls fly around above the water
following the fishing boats that could be seen far away on the horizon. This was
the first time in days that she had been outside for more than a few seconds and
she quickly lost track of time as she enjoyed her freedom.
Chapter 7
Taker woke from his nap and stretched lazily before sitting up on the couch. His
thoughts wandered to Kendra as he rubbed his face with his large hands. He was
disappointed that Hunter had not yet granted him his match but Taker felt that
if he pushed Hunter far enough that he would get what he wanted. And what he
wanted was that damn belt. That belt meant more to Taker than anything else in
the world and he would do whatever it took to get it. But he had been pleasantly
surprised with Kendra’s cooperation. He could tell that she did not particularly
enjoy his company but she had not caused any problems. She did exactly as he
asked and she had yet to try to escape. He still needed her for his plans with
Hunter. Taker raised his face from his hands and looked toward the bed where
Kendra had been laying earlier. He noticed that she was no longer there. He got
up and walked to the bathroom to see if she was in there. It was empty.
“That BITCH!” he yelled, waking Kane from his nap.
“What’s wrong?” Kane asked, sitting up in the bed.
“She’s gone!” Taker replied. “Get up. We have to go find her and when I do she’s
going to regret it!”
Chapter 8
Kane quickly got out of bed and followed his brother out of the room. He could
sense how angry his brother was. “I hope I find her before he does.” Kane
thought. “It’s hard to tell what he would do to her.”
Once outside, Taker and Kane split up. Taker headed for their car. He was going
to drive down the road and look for her in case she tried to leave on foot. He
instructed Kane to look around the hotel. Kane went back inside and looked
around the lobby. He then walked outside to the pool and to the snack bar. She
wasn’t there either. Kane couldn’t blame Kendra for taking off. She wanted to be
free to go where she wanted. But he couldn’t help but feel disappointed that she
was actually gone. He walked around to the backside of the snack bar toward the
beach. He walked towards the pier feeling lost and dejected.
“Come on” he thought to himself. “Did you actually expect her to fall for
someone like you?”
He shook the thought from his head and looked out on the pier. Kane’s heart
skipped a beat! There she was!
“She didn’t leave!” he said to himself.
He looked around behind him hoping not to see his brother. He looked back toward
Kendra and slowly approached her.
Chapter 9
Kendra heard someone behind her clear their throat. She turned and nearly
fainted at the sight of Kane standing before her.
“I only wanted some fresh air” she said. “I was going to come right back. I
swear!”
Kane heard the fear in her voice as she spoke. He nodded as he joined her at the
rail and looked out over the water.
“I was only going to be gone for a few minutes.” Kendra said nervously. “I guess
I just lost track of time.”
“I can see why.” Kane replied. “It’s a beautiful day. I guess I can’t blame you
for wanting to get away for a little while. I just hope my brother can
understand.”
Kendra looked up at Kane. “Was he upset?”
Kane nodded his head. They both remained silent for a few minutes as they looked
out over the ocean again. Finally, Kane couldn’t take it anymore and he spoke to
her again.
“Why didn’t you leave?” he said. “You could have been long gone before we
noticed you were missing.”
Kendra thought about Kane’s question. He was right. She could have been gone. So
why didn’t she leave? She realized that despite the fact that she was being held
captive, so wasn’t all that unhappy with her situation. She had come to enjoy
Kane’s company and she had even gotten used to Taker’s moodiness. She continued
to look out over the water as she spoke to Kane.
“I told you that Hunter didn’t care about me. He treated me badly and there’s no
way I could go back to that. I may be a prisoner here but believe me, it’s much
better than the prison I was in when I was with Hunter.”
Kane looked at her as she talked. He could hear the pain in her voice. So Hunter
had treated her badly. He felt the anger rising inside of him. He knew at that
moment that he had to protect her. Nobody would hurt her again. Not even his own
brother.
Chapter 10
Kane and Kendra stood on the pier, enjoying the view and each other’s company.
Kendra began to relax as she realized that Kane was not angry with her. They
talked for a while, even laughed a little and once again they lost track of the
time. Kane had long forgotten that he was supposed to find her and bring her
back to his brother.
******************************
Taker arrived back at the hotel and he was furious. He had gone up and down all
the surrounding streets and there had been no sign of her.
“Maybe Kane found her.” he thought to himself.
He went back up to their room but there was no one there. He went down to the
lobby, hoping that maybe Kane had left a message that he had found her. No luck
there either. Taker wandered outside and looked around. He headed in the
direction of the beach, searching for Kane. As he came closer to the pier, he
stopped dead in his tracks. There she was standing with Kane. And they were
talking and laughing! He stood and watched them for a while before he felt
himself getting angry again. She ran off without permission and Kane was
supposed to have found her and brought her back to their room and here they were
having a grand old time while he had been out driving up and down the crowded
streets looking for her.
“Oh, she will definitely pay for this!” he growled as he began to approach the
couple.
He was almost upon them when Kane turned and saw his brother. He quickly pulled
Kendra behind him to protect her.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing!” Taker shouted at Kane.
“She just wanted some fresh air.” Kane replied. “She could have easily run off
but she didn’t. Leave her alone.”
“She disobeyed me!” Taker pointed his finger at Kendra. “I told you I would make
you pay if you tried to leave!”
Kane glared at his brother. “You’ll have to get through me first!”
Kendra looked up at Kane in shock. He was standing up to his brother for her.
She quickly glanced at Taker and she saw the anger in his eyes.
“I will have no problem going through you first” Taker snapped as he took
another step toward them.
Kendra quickly interrupted. “Please don’t fight! Let’s just go back to the room,
O.K. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause this much trouble.”
She walked back toward the hotel and Kane quickly followed behind her. Taker
stood still in shock at what just happened.
”I definitely need to have a talk with him” Taker thought to himself as he
headed back to their room.
Chapter 11
Kane, Kendra, and Taker came back to their room. Once they were inside, Taker
turned to Kendra.
“Go take a bath and take your time. I need to talk to my brother.”
Kendra looked first at Taker, then at Kane. Kane nodded his head and motioned
for her to go on. She quickly gathered her things and went into the bathroom
closing the door behind her. She filled the tub and got in. She laid her head
back against the tub and closed her eyes but she couldn’t relax. She was
concerned about the conversation that was taking place on the other side of the
door. She still couldn’t believe what had just happened. Kane had stood up for
her. He was willing to protect her from his own brother. She knew that Taker
wasn’t happy about that. She hoped that everything would be OK. They were
brothers after all and she certainly didn’t want to come between them.
Chapter 12
Once Kendra was in the bathroom, Taker turned his attention to Kane. “What the
hell just happened out there?” he growled.
“You don’t have to yell at her so much. She only wanted to go out and get some
fresh air and I can’t blame her. You’ve kept her closed up inside for over a
week now.” Kane replied. “I was just trying to protect her.”
It was then that Taker realized what was going on. “Kane” he began “Don’t let
yourself fall for this woman. After all she belongs to Hunter of all people. You
couldn’t possibly want to be involved with someone like that.”
“She doesn’t want to go back to him” Kane answered. “He mistreated her and she
doesn’t want to live like that anymore.”
“She told you that?” replied Taker. “Kane don’t you see what she’s doing. She’s
only trying to get you to trust her so you might give her an opportunity for
escape. We can’t let that happen. I still need her.”
“For what?” Kane snapped back. He was hurt by his brother’s remarks. Even his
own brother didn’t believe he could get a woman to love him. “Hunter’s already
made it clear that he doesn’t care what happens to her. Just let her go.”
Taker glared at him angrily. He knew that Kane was right. It was obvious that
Hunter was not concerned with Kendra’s safety. So what exactly was he going to
do with her? “I’ll think about it later” he thought to himself. Right now he had
to deal with Kane.
“I’m warning you Kane. Stay away from her. Don’t let yourself get emotionally
attached. She’s only using you. Don’t forget what happened with Tori. It will
only happen again.” Taker replied.
Kane had finally had enough. “Why the hell do you find it so unlikely that a
woman could actually love me for who I am?” he yelled at his brother.
“Turn around and look in the mirror Kane!” he shot back. “Look at yourself and
then you tell me why a woman could never love you! Get your damn head on
straight before you get hurt again!” Taker stormed out of the room, slamming the
door behind him.
Kane stood and looked at himself in the mirror. He looked at the mask that
covered his scarred face. Despite his anger, deep down he knew that his brother
was right. No woman would ever want him. Especially not Kendra, after he and his
brother had kidnapped her. He thought back to earlier when they were together on
the pier. “Maybe Taker’s right” he thought. “Maybe she’s just using me.”
Chapter 13
Kendra got out of the tub and dried herself off. She had heard most of their
conversation even though the door was closed. She couldn’t believe that Taker
would say such cruel things to his own brother. She put on her clothes and
brushed out her hair. Then she quietly opened the door and stepped out of the
bathroom. She saw Kane standing in front of the dresser mirror, with his head
hanging down. He raised his head as she came into the room. His breathe caught
in his throat as he looked at her. Her beauty always seemed to catch him off
guard, no matter how many times he looked at her. Kane turned and slowly walked
towards her. “Do you feel better after your bath?” he asked her.
“Yes.” Kendra replied. “I take it things didn’t go so well with Taker.”
Kane stopped in front of her. “He just needs some time to cool off.”
Kendra looked down at the floor. “I didn’t mean to cause all this trouble. I
only wanted to go outside for a few minutes. I’m sorry that it ever happened.”
“I’m not” answered Kane.
Kendra looked up at him in surprise. He reached out and gently cupped her cheek
in his large hand, stroking her face with his thumb. Kendra could only stare at
him. She would have given anything to be able to see his face. But he always
wore that damn mask. She realized the whole time she had been with them she had
never seen him without it. “He must sleep in it too” she thought. He had been
wearing this new mask for several weeks now. At least this one left his mouth
open so he could talk and breathe better. She thought about how horrible his
last mask must have been to wear. She stared up into his eyes. His eyes! She
thought she could get lost in his eyes. Kendra realized that she was staring at
him and quickly dropped her gaze to the floor. Kane lifted her chin so that she
faced him again. He slowly lowered his head and gently kissed her on the lips.
It was very light but she could feel the warmth from his body which sent a
shiver through her. Kane pressed his lips against hers with slightly more
pressure, savoring the feel of her. It couldn’t have lasted for more than a few
seconds but it felt as if minutes had past. They were quickly brought back to
reality by the click of the door lock. Kane quickly pulled away from her as
Taker walked back into the room.
Chapter 14
Taker eyed them suspiciously as he entered the room. Kendra quickly retreated to
her bed, while Kane sat down on his bed and turned on the TV. They watched as
Taker gathered his clothes and went into the bathroom. Kendra finally allowed
herself to breathe again when she heard the sound of water running in the
shower. She quickly glanced over at Kane before returning her gaze to the
ceiling. What had just happened? He kissed her. He said he wasn’t sorry about
what happened today. Kendra felt so confused. The kiss had stirred strong
feelings inside of her but she cringed at the thought of what Taker would do if
he found out. She knew for Kane’s sake that it couldn’t happen again. She had to
get away. She pretended to be asleep when Taker came out of the bathroom. “It’s
late Kane” he said. “Turn off the TV and lets get some sleep.”
Kane did as his brother asked and the room was thrown into total darkness.
Kendra lay awake as she listened to the two men breathing. “I have to find a way
to leave them” she thought as she slowly drifted off to sleep.
Chapter 15
Taker was the first to get up the next morning. He quietly woke Kane as Kendra
slept soundly in the next bed.
“What do you want?” Kane sleepily asked his brother.
“After our matches tonight, we have 10 days off. Since we are fairly close,
we’ll go back to my house in Texas. That will give me some time to figure out
what I’m going to do.” Taker replied.
Kane nodded in agreement as his brother turned and walked to the bathroom. He
looked over at Kendra who was still sleeping soundly. He thought back to the
kiss they had shared the night before. Kane rubbed his face with his hands and
shook his head. His brother had told him that Kendra was only using him, and he
had started to believe that his brother was right. But when he saw the way she
was looking at him he had been unable to help himself. He had to kiss her. And
she didn’t try to pull away from him. He looked over at her again as more doubts
entered his mind. Maybe his brother was right. She was using him. Why else would
she allow him to touch her like that? He got out of bed and got dressed and
quickly packed his things.
Kendra was awaken by the sound of Kane stirring across the room. She turned and
looked for him, noticing in the process that Taker was in the bathroom again.
“Good morning.” she said to Kane cheerily.
“Mornin’” Kane replied coldly. Kendra looked at him in confusion. She wondered
what she had done to make him angry. Before she could ask him, the door to the
bathroom opened and Taker came out. “Hurry up and get ready” he said looking at
Kendra. “We’ve got a lot of traveling to do this morning.”
The three quickly packed and ate breakfast before they headed out to the next
arena. Kendra sat quietly in the back seat. She couldn’t understand why Kane had
been so cold with her this morning. Maybe he was upset over the kiss they had
shared the night before. Maybe he felt that he had betrayed his brother. It
didn’t matter now anyway. She had already made up her mind. The first
opportunity she had she would try to escape.
Chapter 16
They arrived at the arena late that afternoon. Kendra sat off by herself in the
corner as Taker talked with Kane. Taker was not scheduled to wrestle on this
night but Kane had a match against Batista. Taker was trying to talk strategy
with his brother so that he could finally get the best of Batista once and for
all. Kane had hardly spoken to her all day and didn’t understand why. But Taker
had been around all day. He hadn’t given them a chance to talk. She turned her
attention back to the monitor and watched the show.
Kane stole a quick glance in her direction. As the day had worn on, he had
continued to convince himself that Kendra was only using him. She had to be. He
had learned the hard way that no woman allowed him to touch them unless they
wanted something in return. He was angry with himself for letting himself fall
for her and he was angry with her for betraying him. He turned his attention
back to Taker as they finished discussing the match.
A half hour later, Kane left the dressing room and headed out to the ring. Taker
stared at Kendra before walking over to her. She looked up at him in fear as he
stood over her. He leaned down until his face was in front of hers.
“Stay away from my brother.” He began coldly. “I know that you’re only trying to
use him to get away. I swear if you do anything to hurt him, what I do to Hunter
will be nothing compared to what I’ll do to you.” He stood up and walked over to
a nearby chair where he sat down to watch Kane’s match.
Kendra could only stare at him. She started to reply but the look on his face
told her she should remain silent.
They turned their attention to Kane’s match, which he won by disqualification
when Flair got involved. Kane returned to the dressing room, angry over the
outcome of his match. That damn Ric Flair was starting to become a big problem!
He quickly showered and the three of them hit the road again, this time headed
for Taker’s ranch.
Chapter 17
They arrived at the ranch late in the night. As they entered the house, Kendra
was amazed at its beauty. It was a large home and it was tastefully decorated.
It wasn’t what she would have expected from the Undertaker at all.
Taker grabbed her by the arm and led her down the hallway to a bedroom.
“This will be your room while we’re here.” he said. “All of the windows are
locked and all of the windows and exterior doors are connected to an alarm
system. If you try to get out, I’ll know before you even get out of the house so
don’t try anything stupid.” He turned and walked out of the room, locking the
door behind him.
Kendra sat her bags down and looked around the room. It was a very large room
and she realized that it would have felt very cozy if she had been there under
different circumstances. But it had been a long day and she was very tired. She
headed to the bathroom to wash up, then jumped in the bed and quickly drifted
off to sleep.
Chapter 18
Taker took Kane further down the hall to his room. “You can stay in here” he
said.
Kane nodded and entered the room. Taker followed him inside.
“I’m going to leave in the morning for Connecticut.” he said as Kane looked at
him confused. Taker continued, “I know if I dig deep enough I can find something
to use against Hunter. I’ll probably be gone for three or four days at the most.
I need to know that I can trust you Kane. It’s your responsibility to keep an
eye on her while I’m gone. Don’t turn your back on her. If she escapes, I will
hold you responsible.”
Kane stared at his brother. “Don’t worry” he replied. “I will keep a close eye
on her.”
Taker walked to the doorway. “Get some sleep Kane. I’ll talk to you some more in
the morning.”
Kendra awoke the next morning to find Taker sitting on the edge of her bed. She
scrambled to cover herself as he stared at her.
“I’m going to take a trip for a couple of days and I’m leaving you here with
Kane. I hope you remember our conversation from yesterday because I mean every
word. Leave him alone!” Taker glared at her. Kendra was so surprised that she
could only nod her head in agreement.
Taker got up and left the room. He left the door unlocked so that Kendra could
move about the house during the day. He spoke with Kane a few minutes before
heading out the door. Kane locked the door behind him. He was going to have to
spend the next four days in this house alone with her. He hoped that he could
keep his feelings under control. He couldn’t let himself be made a fool of
again.
Chapter 19
Kendra dressed and made her way to the kitchen. She made breakfast for Kane and
herself. They sat together at the table while they ate. She made several
attempts to start a conversation with him but his replies were always so short
that she finally gave up. She finished eating and cleaned up the kitchen. After
breakfast she wandered around the house, marveling at its size and beauty. But
she was also scanning the rooms for any flaw that might allow her to escape.
Before, when she had Kane to keep her company, her situation didn’t seem so bad.
But now that even he wouldn’t talk to her, she was absolutely miserable. It was
unbearable to be locked up in a house with someone that wouldn’t speak to her.
She finished her rounds of the house, not finding anything she thought she could
use. Taker certainly had gone through great lengths to secure his house. The
again he was a celebrity of sorts. It would work just as well to keep people out
as it did to keep them in. She wandered back to the den where Kane was watching
TV and sat down beside him on the couch. They watched TV together in silence
before Kendra fell asleep.
Kane looked over the woman sleeping beside him. “God, she is so beautiful!” he
thought to himself. He reached out a hand to touch her face but he caught
himself and pulled back. Frustrated, he got up and left the room.
Chapter 20
Kendra awoke a couple of hours later. She looked for Kane but she realized that
he was gone. She sat up and watched TV for a few more minutes before she got up
and headed to the kitchen. She rummaged around in the freezer until she found
something she could fix for them to eat. She quietly prepared the food, then
went in search of Kane to tell him that dinner was ready. She found him alone in
his room. He followed her back to the kitchen and once again they ate their
dinner in silence. When Kane finished, he got up and went back to the den. He
settled himself on the couch and turned on the TV.
Kendra cleaned up the kitchen, then she went in search of Kane. She couldn’t
take anymore of his silence. She made her way to the den and stood in the
doorway staring at him.
“What have I done to make you hate me?” she whispered.
Kane took a deep breath as he looked at her. “Nothing, Kendra. Just drop it OK.”
“No I will not drop it!” she said with so much forcefulness that she even
startled herself. “Only days ago we were carrying on a very friendly
conversation and now you won’t speak to me at all. What is it Kane? It is
because of that kiss? Do you think that by being friendly with me that you are
betraying your brother? Do you actually think…”
“That’s enough!” Kane shouted, cutting her off in mid-sentence. “Just leave me
alone!”
Kendra stared at him for several minutes before walking over to where he was.
“Kane…” her voice trailed off as he looked up at her. Despite the anger in his
voice, there was only pain visible in his eyes. “I’m sorry if I said or did
anything to hurt your feelings. I certainly didn’t mean to.”
Kane looked up at her as she spoke. “Why the hell does she have to be so nice?”
he thought to himself. She sounded so sincere. He fought the urge to pull her
into his arms right then and there.
Kendra watched him for a few minutes longer. Even though she detected the anger
in his voice, she was not afraid of him. She didn’t think that he would ever
harm her. She could sense his pain and she wanted so desperately to comfort him
but she knew that he would only push her away. Then she began to form a plot in
her mind.
“I’ve got an idea. I’ll be right back!” Kendra rushed out of the room, leaving a
very confused Kane behind.
Chapter 21
Kane sat alone on the couch, still staring at the empty doorway. “What the hell
just happened here?” he thought to himself. “Where did she go?”
Kendra was gone for several minutes before Kane started to get nervous. “What if
she tries to escape? She’s my responsibility.” Kane was about to go in search of
her when she came back into the room.
She walked over to Kane and grabbed his hand, pulling him off the couch. “Come
with me.” she said as she led him out of the room. Kane was so confused that he
found himself following her down the hallway. She led him into the master
bedroom and into the large master bath that she had discovered earlier.
Kane looked around in amazement. The oversized tub had been filled with bubble
bath and there were candles lit all around the room.
“I think you just need to relax a little.” Kendra said to him smiling. “The past
few days have been very stressful on everybody. Maybe this will help.”
Kane looked at her as she reached him a towel from the closet. “Here you go. Go
ahead. Get in.” she said to him.
Kane looked at the towel, over to the tub and back to Kendra. “Go ahead. I’ll
turn my back while you undress.” Kendra turned her back to him and rummaged
through the closet for some soap and shampoo while Kane hesitantly undressed,
leaving only his mask covering his face. He stepped into the tub and hid his
body beneath the bubbles.
Once Kendra heard him get into the tub she turned around and set the soap down
beside his towel. She looked around to ensure that she had everything she
needed. “Oh, I forgot something!” she said. “I’ll be right back.”
Kane bolted upright in the tub as he thought she intended to sneak out.
“I’m not going to leave, Kane. I’ll be right back. I promise.” she added
quickly.
Kane laid back against the tub and closed his eyes. She was right. This was very
relaxing. He stayed that way for a few minutes before he realized that he hadn’t
heard Kendra come back into the room. He opened his eyes and nearly fainted at
what he saw.
Chapter 22
Kendra was standing before him, wearing a white satin nightgown that came down
to just above her knees. The thin spaghetti straps revealed her graceful neck
and shoulders and the tightness of the material showed off her ample breasts.
Her hair was pulled up loosely on her head with a few curls left hanging about
her face and the light from the candles gave her skin a beautiful glow. Kane
thought for a moment that he was dreaming until she carefully stepped into the
tub and sat on the edge.
“Come here and I’ll wash your hair.” she said softly. Kane could only stare at
her as he followed her directions. He had long forgotten everything else except
this beautiful woman sitting before him. He moved so that his back was to her
and she slowly began to run her fingers through his hair. After a few minutes,
she reached for the buckle that kept his mask fastened to his face. He
immediately grabbed her hand to stop her.
“Kane, I can’t wash your hair while your wearing this thing. Besides, with your
back turned toward me I can’t see your face anyway.”
Kane reluctantly removed his hand and Kendra unfastened the buckle and removed
the mask from his face. She laid the mask off to the side and gathering up the
large cup she had brought from the kitchen she began to pour the warm water over
his head. Once his head was completely wet, she poured some shampoo into her
hand and began to massage his scalp. Kane moaned softly and leaned his head back
into her. Her touch felt so good. Nobody had ever touched him like this before.
Kendra then rinsed his hair out and she combed her fingers through his curls,
untangling them. Kane didn’t think that he had ever felt this relaxed in his
entire life. He closed his eyes, savoring the moment.
Chapter 23
Kendra shivered at the feel of Kane’s body resting against her legs. Her hands
moved from his hair down to his shoulders as she began to rub them. His muscles
felt so tense under her hands. When she felt that he was completely relaxed, she
stopped.
“Raise up for a second” she whispered to him.
Kane leaned forward and Kendra quickly scrambled out from behind him. She stood
up in the bath tub and walked around until she was facing him. He looked up at
her to see what she was up to next. Kendra gasped as her eyes locked on his
face. It was the first time she had seen him without his mask on and he was so
handsome. She slowly came closer to him, placing her hands on his shoulders. She
lowered herself into the water so that she was straddling his lap, facing him.
She trembled as she felt his strong arms wrap around her, pulling her closer to
him. She raised her hands and gently touched his face, leaning forward and
placing small kisses along the fine pink scars that covered his skin. Kane could
only look on in astonishment as he realized he had forgotten to replace his mask
after she washed his hair. He closed his eyes as he felt her lips on his skin.
Finally, he couldn’t stand any more. He grabbed her face and brought his lips
down passionately on hers. The kiss intensified as he felt her lips part beneath
his and he began to slowly explore her mouth. He pulled her even tighter against
him as her arms slipped around his neck. They remained locked in that position
for what seemed like an eternity before they finally broke the kiss. Kendra
tilted her head backward as she felt Kane’s lips gently nibbling at her ear,
then slowly moving down her neck. His hands moved to her shoulders, pulling the
thin straps of her gown down her arms as he caressed her.
She moaned as she felt one of his large hands cup her breast and his fingers
began to stroke her hardened nipple through the wet material. She felt as if her
whole body was on fire. She had never felt anything like this before in her
entire life and she wanted more. She could feel his throbbing member which was
pressed against her stomach and she moaned again as she thought of him being
inside of her. She forced herself to pull away from his embrace and she stood
up. She reached for his hand and Kane stood up before her. Her eyes traveled
down his body, taking him all in as she reached for his towel. She began to dry
him off starting with his shoulders and working her way down his body. Kane
closed his eyes as he felt her touching him. He didn’t think he could take much
more. He quickly reached out and grabbed her wrists to stop her. He stepped out
of the tub, then turned around and picked Kendra up lifting her out of the tub.
She wrapped her arms around his neck as Kane kissed her again. He carried her
into the bedroom and put her down beside the bed. He pulled her to him as his
hands moved down her body. He gathered the material of her gown, which was
soaked from the bath water, and pulled it up over her head. He then picked her
up again and placed her in the middle of the bed.
Chapter 24
Kendra reached out to touch him as she felt his body move on top of hers. He
kissed her over and over again as he tried to retain his control. His hands
moved again to her breasts as he rubbed her hardened nipples. She moaned as she
felt his lips replace his fingers and she arched her back, needing to feel more.
His hands continued to roam her body until his fingers made their way between
her legs. He began to gently caress her with his fingertips until he found the
small hardened bud hidden within her folds. He began to massage it slowly and
Kendra moved helplessly against his hand as she gripped his shoulders. She began
to whimper and plead with him as she felt her release approaching. Kane felt her
body begin to tense beneath him and he removed his hand, much to Kendra’s
dismay. She then felt him spread her legs and then he was entering her slowly.
She gasped as she felt his fullness pushing further inside of her. Kane kept his
movements slow and steady so as not to hurt her. She was so tight around him! He
lowered his head and captured her lips in another kiss as her hands roamed up
and down his back.
“Please!” she cried against his lips. “Please… Faster! Oh God Kane, I need
more!”
Kane increased his pace and Kendra desperately met his thrusts as she felt her
whole body tense. She cried out his name as he took her over the edge and this
was his undoing. He thrust inside of her a couple more times before his release
was triggered as well. He collapsed on top of her, wrapping his arms around her
and holding her close to him. As he caught his breath, he rolled onto his side
bringing her with him. He held her tightly against him as he drifted off to
sleep.
Chapter 25
A few hours later, Kane awoke and looked around the room trying to determine
where he was. Then he remembered what had happened. He lay on his back staring
at the ceiling trying to make sense of everything.
“She saw my face and she didn’t run.” He thought to himself. “She didn’t pull
away when I touched her. Maybe she isn’t using me at all. Maybe she really does
like me.”
Kane looked toward the door as these thoughts circled around in his head. He
immediately sat upright in the bed. The door! He had gone to sleep and forgotten
to lock the door! He jerked the covers back and swung his legs over the edge of
the bed in one quick movement. Just as he was about to stand up he felt a hand
on his arm.
“Kane?” “Is something wrong?” Kendra asked.
Kane hadn’t felt her lying in the bed. He thought she had left him there alone.
He laid back down and pulled her into his arms again.
“Everything’s fine.” he whispered to her as he stroked her hair. He kissed her
gently on the lips, then he kissed her again more intensely as his passion began
to rise. He held her to him and made love to her again before they both drifted
back off to sleep.
Kane woke later that morning. Kendra was still curled up next to him asleep. He
laid there for a long time, watching her sleep as the sunlight drifted in
through the window onto her face. He thought about what had occurred between
them the night before. She had given herself to him so willingly. She couldn’t
have done that if she were only using him, could she? And besides, she was still
here beside him. But what if she had meant to leave and she had only fallen
asleep before she could try. Kane felt as if his heart were being torn in two
directions. Who should he believe? Kendra? Or his brother?
Chapter 26
As Kane lay there watching her, he began to form a plan in his head. He was
tired of panicking every time she was out of his sight. He had to find out if
she truly wanted to be with him. He would test her loyalty to him. He would give
her the opportunity to escape. If she ran away, he knew that Taker would be
furious with him. But if she stayed…? Kane let his thoughts trail off. He
couldn’t bring himself to hope for that much. He quietly slipped out of bed and
dressed. He climbed back onto the bed and woke Kendra with a kiss. She opened
her eyes and smiled at him.
“What time is it?” she asked.
“It’s a little after 8:00.” Kane replied.
“I’ll get up and make us some breakfast” Kendra said.
“No” replied Kane. “You lay here and rest. I’ll run out into town and pick us up
something.”
Kendra agreed and Kane gave her another kiss before climbing off the bed and
walking out of the room. When he reached the front door, he made sure that the
alarm system was turned off and he left the door unlocked. He closed the door
behind him as he stepped outside. He walked to the car, pausing to look back at
the house before he drove away.
Chapter 27
Kane desperately wanted to hurry back to the house but he was determined to give
her enough time to get away if she wanted. When he finally returned forty
minutes later, he was so full of dread that he hated to even enter the house. He
walked to the door and opened it. He closed the door behind him as he stepped
inside. He paused and listened. There was no sound. He took the food into the
kitchen and set it on the counter. Then he turned and slowly made his way down
the hall.
As he got closer to the bedroom he realized that there were still no sounds
coming from anywhere in the house. “Maybe she went back to sleep.” he thought to
himself, hopefully. He paused outside the door, trying to summon the courage to
look inside. Finally, he took another step and rounded the corner. He stopped in
his tracks as he looked toward the bed. She was gone!
Chapter 28
Kane steadied himself on the doorframe. She was gone! She left him! He couldn’t
believe it. He felt a large pit forming in his stomach. His brother had been
right. She had only wanted to use him.
He began to feel the anger rising within him. “How could I have been so stupid?
I actually believed she could care for me!”
Kane stood in the doorway for several minutes staring at the empty bed. He
thought back to a few hours earlier to when they had made love. He could only
stand there and shake his head as he tried to digest the realization that she
was gone. Now he just had to figure out how to break the news to his brother.
Kane knew that Taker would be pissed.
“I guess I’ll just have to take it.” Kane thought. “I deserve it for being so
stupid.”
“There you are! I didn’t hear you come back! I thought maybe you decided to keep
all the food for yourself!”
Kane spun around to find Kendra coming out of her room.
Chapter 29
Kane quickly covered the distance between them and he pinned her forcefully
against the wall as he kissed her passionately. Kendra could only wrap her arms
around his neck and hang on for her life as his tongue plundered her mouth.
Kane tightened his grip on her. She was still here! He had never been so happy
in his entire life. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her back to bed.
He laid her down and crawled on top of her, kissing her over and over again as
she squirmed beneath him. She didn’t know what had come over him but she
certainly wasn’t going to complain. As the kiss ended, he lowered his head,
burying his face into her neck. She felt him trembling against her.
“Kane?” she asked softly. “Are you alright?”
He raised his head to look at her and she saw tears forming in his eyes.
“What’s wrong?” she whispered.
“…thought you were gone….left the door unlocked….thought you used me” Kane
mumbled incoherently.
Kendra stared at him for a several seconds trying to understand him. Then it
finally hit her. He believed what his brother had told him. He thought that she
was only using him for a chance to escape.
“I left the door unlocked on purpose to give you a chance to leave while I was
gone.” Kane began, trying to calm himself down. “I thought you left me.”
Kendra hesitated before she spoke. “I know.” she said softly. She looked away
for a moment before meeting his gaze again. “I tried to leave after you were
gone. I found that the door was unlocked but I couldn’t do it. I made it as far
as the porch. I couldn’t go any further. I couldn’t leave you Kane. Not after
last night.” She hesitated for a few more seconds giving him time to digest what
she was telling him. “I made up my mind several days ago that I would escape the
first chance I got.” she continued. “But now that I finally got the chance, I
couldn’t do it. I want to stay with you Kane.”
Kane could only stare at her as he tried to comprehend was she was saying. His
tears ran freely down his cheeks as he caressed her face. Finally, he spoke.
“I’m glad you didn’t go. I need you to stay with me.” He lowered his head to
kiss her again. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck as he deepened the
kiss.
His hands quickly moved down her body, grabbing her shirt and pulling it up. He
broke their kiss only long enough to pull it over her head, then he reached
underneath her to unfasten her bra, removing it and flinging it to the floor. He
moved his lips to her breasts, licking and teasing her nipples until they were
stiff. Kendra wound her fingers through his hair as she moved against him. When
he finished with her breasts, he moved his lips downward across her stomach as
his arms wrapped around her legs, spreading them apart. His lips continued to
move lower until he found the wetness between her legs. She moaned loudly and
jerked against him as he began to stroke her slowly with his tongue. She gripped
his head tightly as he continued his unbearable torture on her. He continued to
tease her as she began to move her hips against his face. He knew that she was
ready for him. He moved slowly back up her body, gently flicking his tongue
around her belly button and her nipples until he once again found her lips. She
pulled him down on top of her as he began to slide inside of her. He quickly
increased his pace and she wrapped her legs around him, begging for more. They
came together quickly, their intense release fueled by their strong emotions. As
Kane collapsed on top of her, Kendra held him tight. “I’ll never leave you!” she
whispered.
Chapter 30
The next couple of days passed quickly. Kendra and Kane spent the majority of
their time in bed, but they occasionally took a time out long enough to eat or
to watch some TV. Taker called at least once a day to check on things, but
otherwise the couple was left completely to themselves.
Kendra enjoyed every minute of her time alone with Kane but she couldn’t dismiss
the feeling of dread that continued to haunt her. She knew that Taker would be
back in a couple of days and then her and Kane would be forced to hide their
feelings again. Kendra didn’t know how she would survive without feeling his
arms around her at night.
As a precaution, Kane had copies made of all the keys to the house, in case he
needed them to get to Kendra in a hurry. He promised her that he wouldn’t let
anyone hurt her in any way, including his brother. Silently, Kane hoped to
himself that he would be able to live up to his word. He knew that his brother
was a dangerous individual and he also knew that Taker would be furious if he
found out about his relationship with Kendra. Kane had discussed with Kendra the
possibility of them leaving while his brother was gone, but in the end he felt
that it would only make her situation more dangerous. Kendra convinced Kane that
they should stay there and ride things out. She felt that if Taker had been able
to uncover some information in Connecticut that he could use against Hunter, she
would no longer be needed and he would be willing to finally let her go. She
feared Taker but she also did not want to be the reason for conflict between the
two brothers. By taking this approach, she hoped that everybody would be
satisfied.
On their last night together, Kane and Kendra lay in bed together, holding each
other tightly.
“I don’t know how I’ll manage to sleep without you beside me at night.” Kendra
whispered to Kane. “I just hope this whole mess will be over with soon so that
we’ll never have to be apart again.
“I’m going to miss sleeping with you beside me, too.” Kane replied. “But
hopefully it will only be for a night or too.” He lowered his head to kiss her
gently and Kendra wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. He made love to her
slowly, savoring the moment, knowing that this could be their last night
together for several days.
The morning came too quickly, and the two lovers set about straightening the
house so as to not arouse Taker’s suspicions. Kendra stiffened as she heard
Taker’s car pull into the driveway. “I hope everything works out OK” she said to
herself as she retreated to the safety of her room.
Chapter 31
Kane met Taker at the door.
“Did you have any problems while I was gone?” Taker asked his brother.
Kane shook his head. “No problems. Everything was fine. Did you find what you
were looking for?”
Taker shook his head in frustration. “Not a damn thing! If there was anything
Hunter didn’t want anyone to know about, he covered his tracks well. I couldn’t
even beat any information out of anybody!” Taker rubbed his hands down his face.
“I’ll think of something. I have to get my hands on that belt!” Taker stormed
into the kitchen and Kane glanced toward the closed door of Kendra’s room. So
much for their plan. He was beginning to think that they should have left when
they had the chance. Kane turned back toward the kitchen and went after his
brother. His only plan for the moment was to keep Kendra safe at all costs.
Kendra sunk to the floor of her room as she heard Taker walk away. She had
listened to their conversation through the door. “He wasn’t able to find any
information?” she thought as she dropped her head to her hands. “God, what else
could possibly go wrong?” She sat on the floor, hugging herself tightly, as she
wished that Kane was there to hold her.
Chapter 32
After several minutes, Kendra got up from the floor and moved to the bed. She
laid there for a couple of hours, her thoughts and fears swirling around in her
mind. She sat up as she heard someone turn her doorknob, hoping that it was Kane
coming to see her. The smile on her face disappeared as Taker entered the room.
He closed the door behind him, and walked over to the bed.
“You didn’t cause any problems while I was away, did you?” he said.
Kendra shook her head. “No.”
“I’m glad to see that you agreed with the little chat we had a few days ago.”
Taker stared at her for several minutes and Kendra began to get nervous. “What
if he suspects something?” she thought to herself. He finally grinned at her
before turning and walking out of the room, locking her in for the night.
Kendra lay awake for a couple of hours, wishing that Kane was there beside of
her. She never imagined that she would miss him so badly. She needed him to
comfort her and to make her feel safe. It was after midnight, and she knew that
Taker had gone to bed a couple of hours earlier. He had been very tired from his
trip.
She stiffened as she heard the sound of her door being unlocked. She grabbed the
covers and held them tightly against her as the door opened. Kendra expected to
see the Undertaker enter her room but to her surprise it was Kane. He had used
his spare key to let himself in. She quickly leapt out of bed and into his arms
as Kane tried to close the door behind him.
He led her to the bed and held her in his arms, trying his best to calm her.
“I’m so glad that you’re here Kane!” Kendra said. “But I don’t know if this is a
good idea. What if Taker saw you come in?”
“There’s no chance. I made sure I waited until he was sound asleep so he
wouldn’t catch me. We have to figure out a way to get you away from here. He
didn’t find anything on Hunter while he was gone. I tried to convince him to let
you go but he wouldn’t agree to it. He says he still intends to use you,
although I couldn’t possibly image how.” Kane whispered to her as he stroked her
hair.
They held each other in silence for several minutes before Kane finally spoke
again. “I guess I should get back to my own room, just in case he wakes up. I
wouldn’t want him to find me in here.”
Kendra reluctantly let him go. He leaned down to give her one last kiss. “I’ll
see you tomorrow” he said softly before he quietly opened the door and stepped
into the hallway. He tiptoed back down the hallway and went into his room,
closing the door behind him. He never noticed the pair of eyes watching him from
the shadows.
Chapter 33
Taker couldn’t believe what he had just seen. He had heard Kane’s movements in
the hallway and he had gotten up to see what he was doing. He was enraged when
he saw Kane enter Kendra’s room, although deep down Taker knew he shouldn’t have
been surprised.
“They actually think they can outsmart me.” he chuckled to himself. He was
furious that they had lied to him, especially his own brother. He crept back to
his room, fuming over their deception. It was then that he realized how he could
use Kendra. He began to form a plan in his mind, one that would not only keep
Kane and Kendra apart, but would also get him his shot at Hunter’s title. He
smiled to himself as he climbed back into bed. Tomorrow, he would make them both
pay.
**************************
Taker woke Kane early the next morning and sent him off to run a list of
errands.
“That should keep him busy for a while.” Taker said to himself as he watched
Kane drive away.
Taker walked down the hall to Kendra’s room. He unlocked the door and went
inside, roughly shaking her awake.
“Get up and gather your things!” he said to her as Kendra tried to figure out
what he wanted so early in the morning. “I’m taking you back to Hunter!”
Kendra froze, trying to understand what he was saying.
Taker continued, “I realize that you are no longer of any use to me so I’m
taking you back. Hurry up and get dressed.”
“But I don’t want to go…” Kendra protested but she was cut short by Taker’s
glare. He definitely looked like he was not in a good mood this morning, and
Kendra decided it was best not to anger him further. She quickly went to the
bathroom to dress and then she gathered her belongings.
Taker led her out of the house to his car. He made his way to the airport where
he bought Kendra a plane ticket to Cincinnati. The other wrestlers had shows
scheduled there for the next two days and he knew that Hunter would be there, as
well. Taker then led her to the airport lounge, sitting her in a booth in a dark
corner. He slid in beside her and began to speak.
“I want you to pay careful attention to what I am about to say. I want you to
get on that plane and go to Ohio to be with Hunter. When you get there, I want
you to find some way of convincing Hunter to give me a shot at that title.”
“How do you expect me to do that?” she replied. “He doesn’t care about me.
There’s no way that he’ll ever listen to anything I have to say.”
Taker cut her off. “That’s your problem. But unless you want something to happen
to Kane, you’ll figure out a way.”
Kendra stared at him in shock. “But he’s your brother!” she protested. “You
wouldn’t dare do anything to harm your own brother!”
Taker suppressed a grin when he saw the shocked expression on her face. “I know
all about you and Kane” he continued. “I saw him leaving your room last night. I
warned you both but you didn’t listen to me. Now you will have to pay the
consequences. And to answer your question, yes, I will do whatever it takes to
get my hands on that belt. Even if it means sacrificing my own brother.”
Kendra felt herself getting sicker by the minute. This man was pure evil! She
had to find someway to warn Kane, but how?
Almost as if he could read her mind, Taker continued. “Don’t go trying to pull
any more funny stuff and this time I mean it. If I find out that you didn’t go
back to Hunter, or that you tried in any way to contact Kane, I’ll hurt him. Do
you understand?”
Kendra slowly nodded her head as Taker got up from the booth. “You better not
miss your flight” he growled at her before walking off.
Chapter 34
Taker returned home, relieved that Kane had still not returned. He felt pretty
confident that Kendra would do as he instructed. He didn’t think she would be
willing to take a chance on Kane being hurt.
He made his way to the den and settled himself on the couch as he waited for
Kane to come back.
An hour later, Kane returned from his errands. He was anxious to see Kendra
because he hadn’t had a chance to see her before he left. He found his brother
in the den and he sat and talked with him for a few minutes so as not to arouse
his suspicions. Kane then got up and made his way through the house toward
Kendra’s room. He was surprised to find that she wasn’t there. He made his way
back through the house to the kitchen. She wasn’t there either. Kane started to
get concerned. He walked back towards the den to find his brother.
“Where’s Kendra?” he asked Taker.
Taker took a deep breath and looked at Kane. “She’s gone.”
“What do you mean she’s gone?” Kane replied, the panic evident in his voice.
“What did you do with her?”
“I didn’t do anything with her Kane. She left on her own.” he replied.
“You’re lying!” Kane shouted as he crossed the floor to his brother. “She would
never do that!”
“Kane, I warned you what would happen if you let yourself get involved with
her.” Taker said. “I didn’t do anything with her. I got to thinking about what
you said last night and I decided that you were right. She was of no use to me
any more. I gave her the chance to leave this morning and she accepted.”
Kane wasn’t buying into his explanation. “She would never leave without saying
goodbye to me.”
Taker shook his head. “She said she couldn’t bear to tell you to your face. She
asked me to tell you goodbye for her. She also made it very clear that she did
not want you to try to find her. She said that she was going to go back and
patch things up with Hunter.”
Kane sunk down helplessly on the couch as he listened to what his brother was
saying. She had lied to him after all. She was going back to Hunter? How could
she leave him this way?
“I’m sorry that she hurt you Kane” Taker said. “But I tried to warn you that
this would happen.” He got up from the couch and left the room, leaving Kane to
suffer by himself
Chapter 35
Kendra was a nervous wreck by the time she arrived in Ohio. She had considered
not getting on the plane at all but she knew that Taker was desperate and she
had no doubt that he would hurt Kane if she didn’t follow his orders. She spent
her time on the plane trying to figure out how she could convince Hunter to give
Taker a title shot. She knew the only reason that Hunter had refused Taker a
match was because he knew that Taker could beat him and Hunter couldn’t live
without having that belt strapped around his waist. Kendra decided that her best
chance would be to play up to Hunter’s ego; convince him that he could beat the
Undertaker one-on-one in a match.
Kendra shuddered as she thought about having to stay with Hunter again. She
would have rather lived out on the street instead of going back to him. She
thought back to how miserable she had been with him; how cruel he had been to
her. She wondered what kind of horrible things he would do to her now that she
had returned. Kendra wiped the tears from her eyes and shook the thoughts from
her head. She had to be strong for Kane’s sake. She had to protect him.
Hopefully, this whole ordeal would be over with soon and she would be back in
his arms for good. She would accept whatever punishment Hunter could dish out in
order to be Kane’s once again.
When Kendra finally arrived at the hotel where Hunter was staying, she had
almost lost her nerve. But the sound of Taker’s threatening voice played itself
over and over again in her mind, and her love for Kane gave her renewed
strength. She knocked on his door and swallowed hard, praying that Hunter was in
one of his better moods. Suddenly the door was jerked open and Hunter’s jaw
dropped as he saw Kendra standing before him. He grinned his cocky grin and
grabbing her by the arm he pulled her into the room, closing the door behind
him.
Chapter 36
Once he had gotten over the initial shock, Hunter questioned Kendra about every
detail of her stay with Taker. She tried her best not to mention Kane at all,
because she knew the emotion in her voice every time his name passed her lips
would give her feelings away.
She did her best to convince Hunter that Taker was doubtful of his ability to
beat him in a match. She encouraged him to give Taker a title shot because
Hunter knew he could beat him. Taker was getting old and tired and he was no
match for a much younger man like Hunter. After talking to him for several
hours, Kendra feigned exhaustion and retreated to the spare room for some sleep.
She was careful to lock the door so that Hunter couldn’t sneak in during the
night. She laid in bed for a long time, jumping at the slightest sounds, until
she finally drifted off to sleep, dreaming of Kane.
The next couple of days were extremely stressful for Kendra. Hunter had
continued to question her about various things from her stay with Taker and she
continued to play up to his ego. So far she had managed to avoid riling his
anger or his lust but she didn’t know how much longer she could keep him at bay.
But the worst part for her was returning to the arenas. On her third night back
with Hunter, Kane and Taker returned. Kendra’s heart was breaking, knowing that
Kane was so close and she couldn’t go to him. She watched his match from
Hunter’s dressing room, hanging on his every movement as he destroyed his
opponent. She could feel his anger even from where she was sitting in the locker
room. She wiped the tears from her eyes, hoping that Hunter didn’t notice the
emotions playing across her face. She couldn’t let him suspect anything.
Kane returned to his locker room after destroying his unfortunate opponent. His
anger had continued to grow in the days after Kendra left. He wouldn’t speak to
his brother at all and anyone else who dared to cross his path met with a
disastrous ending. He was still reeling from Kendra’s betrayal. She had promised
him she would never leave him. Over and over again she had promised him! Then
the first chance she had away from him, she ran back to Hunter. Even after she
had told him how cruelly Hunter had treated her. Kane shook his head. It was all
one big lie at his expense. He violently punched the wall over and over again,
taking his frustrations out on anything he could find. Then finally exhausting
all of his energy, he headed to the shower.
As Hunter and Kendra prepared to leave the arena for the night, they met Flair
and Batista in the hallway. Hunter stopped to talk with them awhile. Flair gazed
at Kendra suspiciously before asking her how she was feeling.
“She feels fine. Don’t you sweetheart?” Hunter said as he draped his arm around
her shoulder and kissed her cheek.
Kendra forced a weak smile and nodded her head. “Yes. I feel fine.” she said
softly as Hunter and Flair continued their discussion. She cringed as she felt
Hunter’s arm tighten around her. “Please let this be over with soon!” she
thought to herself.
Meanwhile, Kane had finished with his shower and was preparing to leave the
building. He left his dressing room and went in search of his brother so they
could head back to the hotel. He rounded the corner and spotted Hunter, Flair
and Batista talking further down the hallway. And Kendra was with them! He
ducked back around the corner so they wouldn’t see him and then he quietly poked
his head around to watch them. He felt his heart sink even further as he saw
Hunter put his arm around Kendra and kiss her. They certainly didn’t look
unhappy to him. Kane felt the anger begin to rise within him once again as he
turned and left in the direction he came. All he wanted to do was to get as far
away from her as possible. He left the arena on foot, forgetting about the
search for his brother.
Taker, however, was not far off. He had been spying on Kendra all evening to see
if she was carrying out his orders. He too had seen her in the hallway with
Hunter and he had to smile to himself. He hated that his brother was in such
pain but after all, it was his own fault. “I tried to warn him what would happen
if he got involved with her.” Taker said to himself. He looked back toward
Kendra one last time before heading out of the arena, feeling very satisfied
with himself. All of his frustrations were about to come to an end.
Chapter 37
Hunter and Kendra arrived at the next arena late the following afternoon. When
they arrived at their dressing room, Kendra retreated to the corner while Hunter
prepared for his match. He eyed her suspiciously from across the room. Something
definitely was not right with her. He had to admit that he was very surprised
that she had returned to him at all. She hadn’t been happy with him before she
left and she certainly didn’t seem like she wanted to be there now. So why did
she come back? He would just have to keep an eye on her to see what she was up
to.
As he finished getting ready for his match, he sent Kendra to get him something
to eat. She left quickly, grateful for the chance to be away from him for a few
minutes. She walked down the hallway toward the cafeteria, lost in her thoughts
of Kane. Suddenly, she was grabbed and pulled into the shadows. She began to
tremble as she heard Taker’s cold voice speaking to her.
“Hunter hasn’t accepted my challenge yet” he whispered menacingly. “Your not
trying to skip out on your end of the bargain are you?”
“I’m working on it! I swear I’m doing the best I can!” Kendra replied, more
concerned with Kane’s safety rather than her own.
“Well, I’d better see some results soon! Otherwise, you never know what kind of
accident might happen!” Taker released Kendra and shoved her back into the hall
before walking away. Kendra was shaking violently as she watched him leave. She
tried to pull herself back together before returning to Hunter’s room.
Kendra watched the monitor closely, hoping to see a glimpse of Kane in action.
Hunter had left her alone in their room, while he went in search of Flair, so
Kendra didn’t have to worry about him for awhile. Her eyes became glued to the
TV as she heard Kane’s music play and he made his way to the ring. She watched
his match intently, tears streaming down her face for the man she loved so much.
When his match finished, Kendra sat back in her chair and once again wiped the
tears from her face. She had been so caught up in the match, she didn’t notice
that Hunter was standing in the doorway watching her.
“So that’s what she’s been trying to hide. She has feelings for the Big Red
Freak.” Hunter said to himself with a smirk. “Well, I know just how to fix
that.” he said before walking away.
Chapter 38
“Are you sure you all know what to do?” Hunter asked the large group of men who
were assembled before him. “I want Kane taken care of tonight! I want this to go
off without any problems! Do you understand?”
The men agreed and Hunter sent them away to wait for his cue. Flair approached
Hunter as the men were leaving.
“You sure about this, man?” Flair asked. “I mean this is some pretty serious
stuff.”
Hunter smirked. “I’m sure about it, all right. I don’t appreciate being lied to.
I’m sure Kendra will learn that tonight after I take care of Kane.” The two men
walked away together as Taker appeared out of the shadows. So Hunter had plans
for his brother. Taker knew he had to find Kane and warn him. Even though Taker
had threatened to hurt him himself, Kane was still family. He wasn’t about to
let anyone else hurt him. Taker quickly made his way back into the arena,
searching for his brother. He checked their locker room first but he wasn’t
there. Taker wasn’t surprised. Since the whole ordeal with Kendra, Kane spent
most of his time off by himself in some secluded area. Taker knew he had to find
him fast before something happened to him. He made his way through the hall,
stopping everybody he came across to ask them if they had seen his brother.
Nobody had seen him for a long while and Taker was being to get worried. He
quickly turned around and went to search in the opposite direction.
*********************************
Kane wandered around the park, finally stopping to settle on a large, wooden
bench. He had noticed the park, which was located next to the arena, and he
thought it would be a good place to get away from everyone for a while. He sat
there, looking up at the stars as he thought about Kendra. His thoughts always
wandered back to her, no matter how hard he tried to fight them. He closed his
eyes as he thought back to those many nights they had made love until the early
hours of the morning. He could still feel her lips against his, her hands
caressing his body. He dropped his face to his hands as he shook the thoughts
from his mind. He glanced at his watch, and noticing it was almost time for his
match, he slowly made his way back to the arena.
Kendra sat alone in Hunter’s locker room, waiting for him to return. He had been
gone for a long time and she couldn’t image where he went. She jumped as she
heard a knock at the door. She cautiously opened it and peered out into the
hallway at the young man standing there.
“Are you Kendra?” the man asked.
“Yes” she replied, as the man handed her an envelope.
“Thank you.” Kendra replied as she shut the door. She turned the envelope over
and over in her hands before finally opening it. It was a very short note,
consisting of only one sentence.
Come to the back entrance of the arena. There is something there that I think
you should see.
She turned the note over, looking for a name. “Who wrote this?” she thought to
herself. She reread the note over and over as she debated whether or not to go.
Her curiosity finally got the better of her and she quickly headed for the back
entrance, praying that she didn’t run into Hunter along the way.
Chapter 39
As Kane reached the back door of the arena, he felt somebody hit him from behind
with something solid. He turned around to see who it was and somebody else hit
him across the lower back, bringing him to his knees. The rest of the men joined
in, hitting him with baseball bats, tire irons, and anything else they could get
their hands on. Kane could have easily taken any one of the men in a one on one
fight, but in this case he was greatly outnumbered and he didn’t stand a chance.
The men continued their assault on him until he lay bloodied and motionless on
the ground. Hunter, who had been watching from the shadows, motioned for the men
to leave, as he looked around for Kendra.
“We’ll see how much she likes her Big Red Freak now.” he muttered to himself as
he walked away.
Kendra reached the back entrance of the building and hesitated once again before
she opened the door leading to outside. She stepped outside and looked around.
She spotted something lying on the ground and she walked closer to get a better
look. As she got closer, she realized that it was a person. She kneeled down to
see if they were still alive and her heart stopped as she realized it was Kane.
He was unconscious and his face was covered with blood. She screamed for help as
she cradled his head in her lap.
“Kane, please be alright!” she cried, tears streaming down her face. “Please
don’t leave me!”
As the paramedics arrived to assist Kane, they pushed Kendra back out of the
way. She knew exactly who was to blame for this. “Damn you, Taker!” she thought
to herself over and over again. “This is all your fault!”
Chapter 40
Kendra insisted on riding in the ambulance with Kane on the way to the hospital.
She tried her best to remain calm, so the paramedics could concentrate on him
but she was terrified. She could tell by looking at him that he was in bad
shape. “He has to be OK!” she thought. “He can’t leave me like this!”
When they arrived at the hospital, Kendra had to fill out his paperwork while
the doctors quickly escorted Kane upstairs. When she was done, she rushed
upstairs to the waiting room, desperate to hear some news on his condition.
“The doctor is in with him now.” one of the nurses told her. “Just have a seat
over there and I’ll send him out to talk with you when he’s done.”
Other than Kendra, the waiting room was empty and she nervously paced the floor.
She finally collapsed in a chair, burying her face in her hands and sobbing
loudly.
“Where is he?” she heard a concerned voice ask. She jerked her head up as she
saw Taker standing in the doorway. “Is he alright?” he asked.
“How dare you even show your face around here!” Kendra said as she rose from her
seat and made her way toward him. “This is all your fault! You are the reason
he’s here! Don’t you dare pretend to be concerned about his condition!”
Taker took a step back, surprised by the tone of her voice. Kendra was furious
and she was determined to have her say with him, even if he was the almighty
Undertaker.
“You have no right to be here!” she continued, shaking her finger in his face.
“Get out!”
“Kenda, this is not what you think...” Taker started to reply but Kendra quickly
cut him off.
“I said leave!” she yelled at him. “I’m not listening to any more of your lies!
You get out of here and leave us alone.”
Taker looked around and noticed that several of the nurses were staring at them.
He realized Kendra was very upset and it would be best if he left her alone for
a while. He turned and left the waiting room, leaving Kendra by herself once
again.
Chapter 41
Kendra waited for what seemed like an eternity before she finally saw a doctor
approaching her.
“How is he? Is he alright?” she asked him, desperate for an answer.
“Well, he’s pretty banged up. He’s got several broken ribs, a broken arm and a
concussion, as well as several cuts and bruises. But he’s one tough man. I think
he’ll recover just fine.”
Kendra breathed a sigh of relief. “Is he awake? Can I see him?”
“Yes, he’s awake but he’s groggy.” the doctor replied. “You can go in and see
him for a few minutes.”
Kendra quickly made her way to his room and went inside. Her heart broke at the
sight of him. He was covered in bandages and he looked like he was in so much
pain.
“Kane, how are you feeling?” she asked him.
Kane turned to look at her. “What the hell do you care!” he replied
Kendra looked at him in shock. “Kane, I was so worried about you. I thought I
was going to lose you.”
“You weren’t too concerned with losing me when you left me!” he growled. “So
don’t pretend to care about me now. Just get out and leave me alone!”
“I only left you because I had to Kane” Kendra replied as she fought back her
tears. “Your brother made me go back to Hunter. He threatened to hurt you if I
didn’t obey him. He’s the reason you’re here!”
“After all the lies you told me, you’ve got a lot of nerve trying to blame your
actions on my brother. Get out of my sight! I don’t ever want to see you again!”
Kane replied as he turned his gaze to look out the window.
“Kane, I swear I’m not lying!” Kendra replied, her heart breaking at his words.
“This is all your brother’s fault!”
“I’m not listening to any more of your lies!” Kane said, his gaze never leaving
the window.
“She’s not lying Kane.” a voice behind them spoke. Kendra and Kane both turned
to find Taker standing in the doorway. “It’s all true. I threatened her to get
her to leave you alone.”
Kane stared in shock at his brother. “You lied to me!” he said. “You knew how
much I cared about her and you let me believe that she deserted me. Why would
you do something like that?”
Taker shook his head. He proceeded to tell Kane the whole story about why Kendra
left when she did. “But I swear, I had nothing to do with what happened tonight.
This was Hunter’s doing. I overheard him planning to take you out. I tried to
find you to warn you but I couldn’t.”
But Kane was in no mood for any more explanations. “Get out!” he yelled at his
brother. “Get out of my life and leave us alone!” Taker left the room without
any protests. He knew his brother was angry and rightfully so. He hoped he could
make it up to his brother in time, but for now it was best to leave him alone.
Chapter 42
Kendra turned back to Kane after Taker left the room. “I’m so sorry for
everything!” she cried. “I had no idea that he told you all those lies!”
Kane reached up with his good arm and touched her face. “It’s not your fault.”
He said softly. “If only I had believed in you, I would have known better.”
Kendra climbed onto the bed and eased up next to him, being careful not to hurt
him any further. They laid there together for a long time in silence, until
sleep finally overtook them.
Four days later, Kendra helped prepare Kane for the trip home. She had stayed by
his side the entire time he was in the hospital and now she was insisting that
he come home with her until he was better. Kane readily agreed, for he was ready
to finally have some time alone with her. He felt so guilty for ever questioning
his love for her. Even so, he knew that his brother was truly the one to blame.
He couldn’t understand how his brother could be motivated to do something so
cruel. Taker hadn’t been back to the hospital since that first night and Kane
was grateful. The last thing he needed right now was another confrontation with
his brother.
Kane was jolted from his thoughts as Kendra entered his room. “If you’re ready
to go, I’ll take some of your things with me and bring the car around.”
Kane agreed as he got slowly up from the bed and made his way to her. He kissed
her on the forehead before she left the room again. He gathered up the remainder
of his things and went to the entrance to wait for her.
Kendra made her way quickly to the parking garage. She was delighted that Kane
was finally going to be able to come home with her. Like Kane, she was confused
and angry over Taker’s actions. She was also relieved that he hadn’t made any
more attempts to speak with Kane. Kendra reached her car and placed Kane’s bag
in the truck. She made her way to the driver’s side door, where she fumbled with
the key to lock.
Suddenly she heard someone yelling at her. “Look out!”
Kendra ducked just in time to hear the glass in the driver’s side window shatter
into a thousand pieces. She felt someone rush past her as she scrambled to get
out of the way. She ran several feet before stopping to look back. She stood
frozen in place at what she saw. Taker was on the ground, pummeling someone with
his large fists. When he finally stood up, she was shocked to see that it was
Hunter. She looked towards her car, where she saw a sledgehammer laying on the
ground.
Taker made his way over to her to check on her. “Are you OK?” he asked her
cautiously as he reached out to touch her arm.
“He tried to kill me!” Kendra replied weakly as her head began to swim.
Taker caught her in his arms before she could hit the ground. He gently carried
her back into the hospital to find her some help. A couple of nurses came to
assist him and he stepped back to let them do their work.
Chapter 43
Meanwhile, Kane had gotten concerned about Kendra. It seemed like it was taking
her an awful long time to get back. He rounded the corner in time to see Taker
coming through the door, carrying Kendra in his arms. Kane made his way to them
as fast as he could, pushing his brother out of the way.
”You son of a bitch!” Kane shouted as he swung his fist toward his brother’s
head. “What have you done to her now!”
Taker avoided the blow and took a step backwards. The men were quickly separated
by two policemen. Kane threw his brother one last glare before turning his
attention back to Kendra, while one of the policeman escorted Taker outside to
question him about what had happened.
Kendra awoke a few minutes later. She glanced around quickly trying to figure
out where she was at. Her eyes settled on Kane as he spoke to her. “What
happened? Are you alright?”
Kendra nodded her head slightly as she tried to recall what had just happened.
“He tried to kill me!” Kendra replied still in shock.
Kane clenched his fists in anger. “I can’t believe that my brother would stoop
this low!” he growled.
“Not Taker.” Kendra replied. “It was Hunter. Taker saved me.”
Kane stared at her for several seconds in shock. “What?”
Kendra explained to Kane what had happened. Kane felt thankful and guilty all at
once. Even after everything Taker had done to keep them apart, he had saved
Kendra’s life.
Kane turned his attention back to Kendra. “Will you be alright here for a few
minutes?” he asked her.
Kendra nodded and Kane left to go find his brother.
Kane found his brother still sitting outside the hospital. Taker stood up as he
saw Kane approaching, expecting another confrontation.
“Kendra told me what happened” Kane began. “I guess I owe you an apology for
accusing you of hurting her again.”
Taker shook his head. “I’m the one who should apologize. I’ve put you both
through hell the past couple of weeks. I can’t blame you for suspecting me. I
just want you to know that I am sorry.”
Kane nodded as he shook his brother’s hand. “Thanks for saving her, man.” he
said. “You know how much she means to me.” Kane turned to go back to Kendra. As
he reached the doors, he paused to look back at his brother. Taker motioned for
him to go on.
“Maybe everything will work out after all.” Kane thought to himself as he walked
back to Kendra.
Conclusion
“We’re here!” Kendra shouted as she welcomed Kane into her home. “You’re going
to love it here. I’m going to wait on you hand and foot until you’re completely
healed.”
Kane grinned at her abundant enthusiasm as he pulled her into his arms. “Maybe I
could convince you to give me another one of those bubble baths that you’re so
fond of.”
Kendra smiled up at him. “We’ll have to wait and see.” she replied. “Maybe when
you get a little better. Right now it may do more harm than good.” she giggled
as she rubbed her hand across the bulge in his jeans. He groaned loudly as she
continued to tease him. She grabbed his hand and led him down the hallway to her
room. “You can stay in here with me.” She said as he sat his bags on the floor.
“Go ahead and lay down. See if its comfortable enough for you.”
Kane laid down on the bed and Kendra kneeled over him, leaning down to kiss him
on the lips. He grabbed her hair tightly with the fingers on his good hand as he
held her against him. She began to rub her hands lightly across his chest, being
careful not to hurt his injured ribs. She encouraged him to raise up enough for
her to help him remove his shirt. He laid down on the bed again as Kendra’s
tongue slowly worked its way down his body. She nibbled his ears and his neck
before moving her attention to his nipples. As she continued her sweet torment,
her hand moved lower to once again stroke the bulge in his jeans. He moaned
loudly and thrust against her hand as she teased him. He took a deep breath as
he felt her fingers unfasten the button and she began to slowly peel off the
remainder of his clothes. She wrapped her hand around his hardening length and
began to stroke him lightly. Then she slowly lowered her head, taking him into
her mouth. Kane moaned louder still as his fingers tightened on her hair once
again. She began to bob up and down on him in a steady rhythm as she felt him
writhing beneath her. She felt him tense beneath her as his climax approached.
She took him all in as he bucked off of the bed and emptied himself into her. As
he collapsed back onto the bed, she grinned at him as she snuggled close to his
side.
“Damn woman!” he groaned. “What are you tryin’ to do? Send me back to the
hospital already?”
Kendra giggled as she held him tight. “No sir. I intend to keep you right here
with me. From now on you’ll never be out of my sight, not even for a minute.”
she said. “You’re my captive now.” she whispered in his ear as they drifted off
to sleep together.
